Periscope – a video streaming app by Twitter available for Android
Micro Blogging site Twitter’s live video streaming app Periscope is now available for Android in play store. In March 2014 it was launched in Apple’s app store for iOS.
As the similar competitor app Meerkat was released on Google play store, Twitter also made it available for Android platorm. Periscope was purchased by Twitter on January 2015.
Twitter has claimed that, Periscope was downloaded more than a million times within the first week of its release.
Periscope app can be used for live video streaming and text messaging. Although the app is revolutionary in video streaming technology, experts have told that excess data is used during video transmission. It is estimated, around 400MB data is transferred while transmitting half an hour long live video through Periscope app. So users are suggested to take care of data plan before using this app.
An Android engineer at Periscope Sara Haider told that the message or phone call during live streaming doesn’t affect video streaming and will be continued from the same time. Also, the live broad casted video doesn’t need to upload again for repeat casting.
The app is available in Google Play Store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.periscope.android
