Major Tech Acquisitions of 2014
The year 2014 was the busiest year for the tech giants for tech acquistion. Tech giants like Google, Apple, Oracle etc kept their big eyes on the customer oriented tech startups and companies. These companies invested billions of dollars on purchasing tech products and customers. Some of the major tech acquistions of 2014 are:
1. Facebook buys WhatsApp
In February, Facebook makes the history in tech industry by purchasing Mobile Messaging App WhatsApp for 19 Billion dollar. It is the second largest acquisition in the history of tech industry.
2. SAP purchases Conquer
German multinational software company SAP buys Conquer for 8.3 billion dollar to strengthen its cloud computing. It is a second largest tech acquisition of the year.
3. Level 3 buys TW Communications
American internet traffic router Level 3 communication deals with Internet Service Provider TW Communications for 7.3 billion dollar.
4. Oracle deals with MICROS System
American multinational IT corporation Oracle acquires MICROS Systems for 5.3 billion dollar. Together Oracle and MICROS System will improve their Data Systems and will will help Hotels, Food & Beverage and Retail companies transform their businesses and compete more effectively in today’s environment.
5. Vista Equity Partners deal with TIBCO
Software and IT focused private Equity company Vista Equity Partners deal with TIBCO softwares for 4.3 billion dollar. TIBCO is a global leader in infrastructure and business intelligence.
6. Elliot Management Corporation buys Riverbed Technology
American management company Elliot Management Corporation deal with Computer Networking company Riverbed Technology for 3.6 billion dollar.
7. Motorola Solutions Scanner Business purchased by Zebra Technologies
Famous American company Motorola Solutions’ Scanner Business was acquired by Zebra Technologies for 3 billion dollar. In this deal, Zebra has acquired many patents owned by Motorola Solutions.
8. Google buys NestLab
Internet giant Google purchased smart tech company Nest Lab for 3.2 billion dollar to extend its business in smart tech. NestLab is establised by the inventor of iPod Tony Fadell.
9. Apple acquires Beats
The headphone manufacturing and music apps developing company Beats was acquired by Apple for 3 billion dollar in August 2014. This is Apple’s one of the biggest acquisition. Apple is planning to embed Beats music system into its iTunes Radio service.
10. Lenovo buys Motorola Mobility
Motorola Mobility, a company that manufactures Android Smartphones, Bluetooth Accessories is purchased by Lenovo for 2.9 billion dollar. It was ealier acquired by Google for 15.5 billion in 2012.
